Our Pastor

A little about our new Pastor:

Dear New Family at JCUMC,
I was born and raised on Long Island's south shore. I have spent most of my life enjoying the waters of the Great South Bay, the Oceans off the beaches of Cedar and Jones, and our great Cayuga Lake. I do have a special fondness for salt water, perhaps because we tend to identify best with our roots. However, the first time I ever experienced frolicking in fresh water, I was taken by surprise with the clarity and pureness that fresh water can offer.
I have always been interested in music and after graduating from HS, I pursued a career in music education. I began my studies at the Crane School of Music within the State University at Potsdam. After 3 years, I transferred to Ithaca College where I received my undergraduate degree. I married my husband Carl during this final year. He was born and raised in Trumansburg, so there is lots of familiarity with the area.
We have 3 grown children, Kevin, Christopher, and Sarah and are the proud grandparents of Tyler and Phisher Stevenson (Brian and Sarah) and Nell Judd (Chris and Erin). All still reside in New York State, which is an absolute blessing! I also have a sister who resides with us and is very much a member of TUMC. They have pretty much adopted her.
I may have met some of you through other various organizations. I was on the faculty of the Trumansburg Conservatory as a piano instructor for 24 years before opening my private studio at my home. With my new path into ministry, and having become the music director at Trumansburg United Methodist Church, I found the need to give up my teaching in order to be able to attend seminary. I was also very involved with the Trumansburg High School drama department serving as pianist for their musical productions for over 15 years.
I had a very strong calling a little over 2 years ago at Annual Conference. It was during the final hymn “The Summons” that the Holy Spirit called me forward to serve in some capacity. At the time I did not know how, but I guess I do now! I believe I've been led right along through music. It just took a while for me to listen. I'm glad I did.
I have completed 1/3 of seminary and have chosen to take the route of Licensed Local Pastor. This path will allow me to be a pastor while continuing my education toward ordination.
I believe that God works in wonderful and mysterious ways and I do truly believe that God's hand was actively working through the appointment process and the Bishop in placing us together. It is through God's grace and blessings that we join together and experience the next part of this journey. I could not have been more greatly blessed! Thanks be to God!

God's peace and blessings be with all of you.
